Excited about this massive European and Internationally-themed weekend coming up…..

Firstly, a small personal milestone, in my role as Honorary Consul for Bulgaria. For the first time ever, Bulgarian nationals can sort their ‘Consular Services’ here in Liverpool, avoiding costly and time-consuming journeys to the Embassy in London, this weekend. Nearly 100 bookings (over two days) have been made, for services ranging from renewing ID to notary services. With this popularity in mind, we will see this done in Liverpool on a 6-monthly basis in future.

Bulgaria is also involved, for the first time, with the Liverpool European Festival, which will take place this weekend, as we mark ‘Europe Day’. Also thanks to the very engaged and capable Mitka Yovcheva.

The launch of this weekend begins on Europe Day, 9th May, at St Luke’s (the ‘Bombed Out Church’), followed by a Tarantella music workshop from Calabria, supported by Società Dante Alighieri. On 10th May, a European Parade winds through Liverpool city centre, before the weekend closes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

40+ free and low-cost events will take place across Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral throughout May and June, all organised and led by Liverpool’s own European communities and businesses, and with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Open Eye Gallery and National Museums Liverpool joining as collaborative partners.

From Italian bike rides and Swedish Midsummer celebrations, to Ukrainian dance and German theatre, you can expect an incredible array of live music, food, cultural workshops and more!

On Sunday, as part of our European Parade, we will have a VIP reception with the High Commissioner of Cyprus (Cyprus currently holds the EU Presidency).
